I left a 1960s Omega Seamaster that had not run in several years. The assessment took about fifteen minutes and Khun Wichai explained clearly what had dried out and what was worn. I agreed to the full service. It came back running well and he showed me the timegrapher reading. I appreciated that nothing was done without my agreement first.

My dive watch had not been pressure tested in four or five years and I was not confident swimming with it. The seal renewal service was straightforward — they replaced the gaskets, tested it, and told me the result. Wait was about ten days, which felt reasonable. Would have liked a slightly faster update mid-process but the result itself was exactly what I needed.

My grandfather's watch — a Swiss manual wind from the 1970s — had sat in a box for over a decade. I was nervous about handing it over but the intake conversation put me at ease. They prepared a written plan before touching anything. The restoration took about three weeks and the watch now runs beautifully. Seeing it working again was quite something.

Brought in a watch that I knew had a problem but could not describe accurately. The diagnostic service was exactly the right starting point — they identified worn cannon pinions and explained why the timekeeping had become erratic. I decided to proceed with the basic service on the spot. Collected five days later, running fine.

I came in not really knowing what I had — an old watch from a deceased relative, brand unclear, movement type unknown. Rather than guess and charge me, they took time to identify the movement before quoting. Some of the parts needed sourcing from Bangkok which added a week, but I was kept informed and the final price matched the estimate.

As someone with several watches, I need a reliable place for routine servicing in the south. Manora Studio has handled four of mine over the past two years. What I value most is that they do not recommend work that is not needed — I once brought a watch they assessed as not yet requiring a full service and they simply said so.

Three Projects, Described
Case Study 01 · Full Restoration
A 1968 Swiss Manual-Wind, Received Non-Running
The Situation
A Hat Yai resident brought in a Swiss manual-wind watch from 1968 that had been in a drawer for approximately twelve years. The owner knew it had sentimental value but was uncertain whether restoration was worthwhile given its age.
What Was Done
Full movement disassembly. Dried lubricants cleared from all jewels and surfaces. Three worn parts identified and sourced — two from a parts supplier in Bangkok, one from a European specialist. Movement reassembled, regulated. Case cleaned conservatively at the owner's request; original dial and hands left untouched.
The Outcome
Watch returned running within +6 seconds per day. Owner reported that seeing the watch on the wrist again — unchanged in appearance but functioning — was the outcome they had hoped for. Project took four weeks including parts sourcing.
Case Study 02 · Seal Renewal
A Dive Watch Worn Daily, Seals Several Years Overdue
The Situation
A Sadao-based customer used a Japanese automatic dive watch as his daily wear, including occasional swimming. He estimated the gaskets had not been changed in six to seven years and wanted to understand the actual state of the seal before the coming wet season.
What Was Done
Case opened; existing gaskets found brittle and partially compressed. Crown o-ring replaced. Case back gasket and tube gasket replaced with manufacturer-specification parts. Reassembled and placed on pressure tester. Tested to 10 bar — appropriate for the watch's stated rating.
The Outcome
Watch passed the pressure test at 10 bar with no measurable leak. Customer was advised on practical water use for the watch's rated specification. Collected in eight days. Customer said he had not realised the seal service was this straightforward and would not delay it again.
Case Study 03 · Diagnostic Service
Irregular Timekeeping, Cause Unknown to the Owner
The Situation
A Songkhla Town resident noticed her automatic watch had become inconsistent — sometimes losing twenty minutes over a day, other times running acceptably. She was unsure if it needed a full service or something minor.
What Was Done
Diagnostic examination under magnification. Timegrapher reading taken: beat rate showed erratic amplitude consistent with worn or fatigued mainspring. Owner was given a clear explanation of the finding. She decided to proceed with the basic service which included mainspring replacement, lubrication, and regulation.
The Outcome
Watch returned with consistent amplitude and running within ±8 seconds per day — within normal range for its calibre. The owner noted she appreciated having the problem explained rather than simply being told a service was needed.
